What is plantar fasciitis?

It is the inflammation of the thick fascia in the sole called plantar fascia. Usually this fascia acts as a shock absorber and supports the arch of foot. Repetitive trauma or injury can lead to tear in this fascia leading to pain.

What will the patient complaint?

Heel pain, mostly early in the morning on taking the first step. The pain usually subsides on moving, but may again comeback after sometime.

What is platelet rich plasma(PRP)?

Platelet rich plasma is patients own processed blood containing lots of growth factors.

How is the procedure done?

PRP is prepared from patients own blood , some amount of patients blood is taken and processed in a centrifuge machine which leads to formation of 3-4 ml of processed blood rich in growth factors. These growth factors are then injected to a torn part of fascia which will lead to regeneration of that fascia again. Under the supervision of ultrasonography , the torn part of fascia is identified and the growth factors are injected.

How long will it take for the procedure?

This procedure is done as a day care procedure. the procedure will usually take 10 minutes and after that patient is kept for observation for hour after which they can go back home.

Will it give permanent relief?

Yes it will give permanent relief to the patient. Although healing of the fascia will take 2-3 months but it is a permanent solution.

What are the post procedure recommendations?

The patients are advised specific exercises which have to be followed. Wearing an appropriate foot wear is mandatory.
