What is vertebroplasty?

Vertebroplasty is a procedure in which medical cements is inserted into the fractured vertebrae to make it stable.

In which conditions is done?

This procedure is done compression vertebral fractures.

What will the patient complaints?

Patient will have pain in the back , tenderness in the fracture vertebrae, x-ray will show fractured vertebrae.

What is the procedure?

This procedure is done in operation theatre under local anesthesia. Patients are in prone position and the fractured vertebra us identified in fluoroscopy. Once the fractured vertebrae is identified, bone cement is injected in to it.

How long the procedure will take?

This procedure will take 30-45 minutes to be completed after which patients will be kept under observation.

What are the post-procedure recommendations?

Patient should take rest for 24 hours after which activities have to be resumed slowly, followed by exercises and medicines prescribed by the doctors.

Who should avoid this procedure?

Patients with allergy to local anesthesia, bone cement, blood disorders, those on blood thinners.
